Integrated Research and Education

Research on education has provided strong evidence that involving students early in their academic careers in real research efforts is one of the most effective ways to improve student recruitment and retention in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathmatics (STEM). In particular, research on broadening participation has confirmed the high impact of this strategy on students from underrepresented groups. For this reason, Cyber-Share invests heavily in integrating research and education, providing students with specific research projects relevant to the deep disciplinary concepts they learn in the classroom, and embedded within research groups. These groups are interdisciplinary, enabling the students to gain skills interacting across disciplines.
